Exam Prep and Tips

Funny

But I know you all will so you can have a giggle at the above image.

Seriously thought, it is so important that you practice, practice and practice some more.
You have two papers and three hours to complete them. This may seem like a lot of time but time has a nasty habit of disappearing when you need it the most.

Below is a breakdown of time for each of your papers and my suggestions on how you should approach them.
Remember this is my recommendation, if it does not work for you, then find something that does work!

  • 1 and a half hours per paper
  • 2.3 – Interpret sources of an historical event of significance to New Zealanders (4 credits)
  • 2.5 – Describe how a significant historical event affected New Zealand society (4 credits)

2.3 Interpret Sources of a Historical Event of Significance to New Zealand (4 credits)

Level 2 History NCEA past papers

  • Worth 4 credits
  • Source interpretation
  • Tips for tackling this paper
    • Read the questions before you read the sources. This way, you will know what they are asking as you read the sources.
    • Ensure you highlight/ underline the main points of the question. This helps them stand out to you.
    • As you read through the sources, highlight the points that will help you answer the questions being asked.
    • When answering the questions, remember to stick to what is being asked, try not to get side tracked. You only get marks for answering what is being asked.

2.5 – Examine causes and consequences of a significant historical event

Level 2 History NCEA past papers

  • Worth 5 credits
  • Describing the main causes and consequences of an important event, you have studied well
  • Tips for tackling this paper
    • Read the questions/ planning page very carefully before you rush into answering them.
    • Ensure you highlight/ underline the main points of the question. This helps them stand out to you.
    • When answering the questions, remember to stick to what is being asked, try not to get side tracked. You only get marks for answering what is being asked.
    • If you can, try and bring some quotes in and facts and figures. That is what pushes it to the higher grades.
    • Use the above link to read some past examplers.

Most importantly, please ensure you are getting enough sleep, you are eating as well as you can (try to avoid high energy drinks and junk food). Regular exercise is also hugely beneficial, as are breaks for 10 minutes for every hour of study.

Finally, try and not use your device an hour before you sleep. The bright light from the screen affects how well you sleep. It causes the brain to stop producing melatonin, a hormone that gives your body the “time to sleep” cues. Because of this, smartphone light can disrupt your sleep cycle, making it harder to fall and stay asleep.

Exam Prep

Term III already… ahhhh

Ekkk its term 3 already, which means its external assessment countdown!!

Home Alone

This term we will be looking at the final parts of the Chinese Revolution, followed closely by the Cold War and then the Vietnam War. This is an important war to study as its was heavily influenced by the intervention of America and it has often been said that the loss of life may not have been as big if America had not gotten so heavily involved.

We will be looking at theories such as Domino Theory and how the paranoia that the Cold War caused helped fuel the need of America to stop the spread of Communism, at any cost.

We will also be doing A LOT of external practice so get used to doing lots of essay writing and source analysis. As usual if you have any suggestions on content or how we could do a topic, revision or exam practice differently, please let me know.

See you in history!!

Welcome to Term II

Hey Ladies,

Welcome to Term II.

This term we will start with a quick recap on what we have covered last term and then get straight into the March and October Revolutions of 1917.

Following that we will look at the Civil War and the rule of Lenin in Russia.
We have a busy few classes coming up so I need you guys to….

A game

Towards the end of May I will be handing out the 2.2 internal. We will spend one or two classes prepping to do this internal and making links with your previous internal.

It would be great if you could get your notes, sources, etc ready in preparation for this. You will have three weeks to complete this internal (due 26th June). Remember though, you have the bulk of the research done on the topic so that is a starting point.

If you have any worries or concerns about what we will be doing this term, or the internal please do not hesitate to email or speak to me.

See you in class 🙂
